First steps and further success
It all began with a small web studio named City Hall Illustrations (CHI), a team of ten enthusiasts, and a desire to create something exciting. The company started off as a digital agency providing UI/UX design and frontend development services for the local market.
In two years, we expanded our tech stack and expertise areas – the company started to grow. Soon after that, City Hall Illustrations turned into CHI Software Development Center.
Rapid progress.
Backend era
Three years after the start, we became competent in Ruby, Python, Java, .NET, C++, and JavaScript – this is what we call our backend era. Strictly speaking, it has never ended since then because now we have dedicated departments for each of these programming languages.
During the same period, we started to explore new markets and, as a result, cooperate with clients from neighboring countries. It allowed us to grow our team from 10 to 30 people and strengthen our technical prowess.
New ground.
Mobile & embedded era
The time came to push our boundaries and go beyond web development. We enriched our expertise with mobile and embedded app development services. Our team continued to grow and now counted 50+ experts.
At this stage, we decided to share our experience and help young talents and beginners in the sphere. CHI launched its first corporate internship program with in-house mentors for students and postgraduates. This initiative aimed to build up and educate our team and enlarge the local IT community.
Discovering new markets: the US, Israel, and Western Europe countries
Our team was reinforced with more technical and non-technical specialists: QA engineers, business analysts, BI developers, along with managers in various spheres (HR, sales, project management, and account management).
It allowed the company to explore new foreign markets: in the US, Europe, and Israel. Consequently, we opened our first foreign representative centers there and started to strengthen our international partnerships. At this point, CHI Software counted 200 experts.
Providing new services and keeping up with tech trends
Our new offerings to clients included full-stack development and quality DevOps services. We continued to aim high, and for this reason, we started to look into innovative technologies, such as big data, computer vision, and machine learning.
The expanded range of services required more development workforce, so in 2017, our team had 350+ experts on board.
Growing our clients network: entering Asian and Scandinavian markets
Two years later, CHI Software had three development centers in Ukrainian cities and continued to establish new international cooperations with clients in the Nordic countries. It is worth noting that our team first entered the Asian market by partnering with Japanese businesses.
Meanwhile, we strengthened our skills and knowledge in cloud computing. Several of our developers received AWS and Microsoft certifications, while the company became a Microsoft Gold Partner.
Growth through challenges: The Covid pandemic
The pandemic was a total shock for everyone in the world, including the CHI Software team. And just like the global business community, we had to be flexible and adapt our processes. We developed approved remote work guidelines and transformed our traditional working policy.
At the same time, we continued to follow through on our goals and shifted our focus from outstaffing to outsourcing projects. Also, CHI Software opened a new development center in Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine, to expand our market presence in Eastern Europe.
Quality in the limelight: ISO certifications
We mean it when we say that quality is our number one priority. CHI Software received ISO 27001 and ISO 9001 certifications to prove that we follow the highest quality standards and care about every project, regardless of its budget and duration.
At the same time, our team was mentioned in several Clutch ratings among the leading IT service providers, including the AI and ML branches. It was a great present for our 15th birthday and a sign that we’re moving in the right direction.
Coping with war-related business risks
In February 2022, Russian troops invaded Ukraine, and most of our development centers appeared in critical danger. The company helped employees with relocation and organized a shelter in the new office located in Lviv, a city in the Western part of Ukraine. Not only did we get back to the pre-war working pace, but we also provided all possible assistance to Ukrainian defenders, volunteers, and victims of the war.
Later that year, CHI Software, like all other businesses, had to deal with regular blackouts caused by massive missile attacks. We equipped our offices with generators, charging stations, and Starlink internet.
Along with all challenges we had to face in Ukraine, CHI Software didn’t stop growing. We opened new offices in Japan, Spain, and Poland and expanded our recruiting geography.
Company Today
17 years have passed, and the company has grown from 10 to 800+ specialists. CHI Software is open to the world: we have representative offices in Ukraine, Japan, Poland, Spain, the US and Republic of Cyprus.
At this point, we can cope with a multitude of development challenges, as our team has specialists of any level and specialization. With 16 engineering and 5 product support teams, we cover the entire development cycle and each of its stages separately.
Our core offering now is building complex software for various industries, including but not limited to retail, fintech, insurtech, travel, and logistics. We realize that such sophisticated solutions must be supported by the highest quality standards, so we keep perfecting our expertise.
Thus, at the end of 2021, CHI Software became an ISO-certified company (ISO 27001 and ISO 9001) to ensure the quality level of our services meets the latest industry requirements and our clients’ expectations on a global level.
Tempered by the war, relocation, and emotional stress, we are sure that nothing can stop us from working harder, improving our expertise every day, and providing the best service on the market.
