On May 25, 2023, the CHI Software team held the fifth webinar within our CHI Talks series. This time, we dwelled on the topic of text simplification as a part of the natural language processing (NLP) niche. The event’s goal was to uncover the text simplification basics, its current tasks, and prospects.

Text simplification is an operation aimed to change and enhance a current text for a better understanding with no changes in the content’s original meaning.

Our webinar covered the following aspects:

  • Where you can use text simplification capabilities,
  • The list of simplification approaches,
  • The definition of “simple” words,
  • The obstacles of text simplification,
  • How to evaluate text simplification results,
  • The overview of the most popular text simplification models.

You can learn more about each of these points by watching the event in full:

The guest of our webinar who kindly agreed to share her expertise was Olha Kanishcheva, a researcher at Jena University (Germany) and a consulting ML/NLP Engineer at CHI Software, who wrote several scientific publications related to text summarization, covering entity recognition, keyword extraction, etc.
